OHS and Refugee One – Please Join Us

Personal reflective essays from OHS seniors who were touched by the children at Refugee One.

Oakridge High School Senior Current Issues…is taking donations for school supplies and accepting new and lightly used Winter clothes for refugee children at Refugee One in Chicago.  Refugee One creates opportunity for refugees fleeing war terror and persecution to build new lives of safety, dignity, and self reliance in the city of Chicago.

In October our class spent the weekend in Chicago. We volunteered with kids from ages five to fifteen from all over the world. Burma, Syria, Ethiopia, Nepal, Zambia and Rwanda…I was so proud of the character of our students and impressed by the spirit and intelligence of the little ones in Chicago. We had a enlightened experience.  The world is a pretty tough place right now. We decided that as a class we were going to make it a little bit more friendly and warm. If you would like jto donate money for school supplies drop us a check or cash at the High School office. If you have clothes for us…you may drop them there as well. Or contact me here…

In addition all of our  students wrote personal reflections of their experience with the Refugee One children,  that you will find in the Blendspace link below.  You’ll see for some, the journey was life changing.  Feel free to share our links, our reflections, our Movie Trailer – anything you wish that would help us to help these kids.

Please join with us and help to open this nation’s arms to some special children.

Thanks….Happy Holidays.
