This is a very cool one credit class.  It will be the first course I’ve taught at MCC, so if you sign up we will be learning together.  The course goals are such that they culminate with a three day conference in Chicago with student teams from all over the country.  MCC will have a team…I will be kind of like a coach.  We will be randomly assigned a nation state.  I have no idea right now what country that will be.  However, our entire Marking Period will be consist of digging online, and reading, and writing, and learning about our country, so that come the conference we will be able to best defend it in a United Nations style setting.  We will learn about everything from International treaties and history, to agriculture and water rights in regard to our assigned state.  In December we go to Chicago with the knowledge we have gained and engage other college students from around the nation, in a three day conference that models the United Nations.

ME and MY Future – A Pecha Kucha

This year’s Senior Current Class entered the realm of Pecha Kucha.  Elephants have souls.  Praise the Lord.

The Assignment…ME and My Future (A Pecha Kucha).  Counts as a 100 point assignment for MP #6 and 50% of your Final Exam.  Please go here for available sign up times.   Go here for a reminder of what makes a good Pecha Kucha.

And so, lets stick with it…and use the format for one last SCI Assignment.  A Pecha Kucha video – from you to you.  You know the Pecha-Kucha-Posterformat – 20 slides for 20 seconds.  You know that less is more, and that if you talk instead of read from note cards, that your production flows.  You know the subject for God’s sake.  IT’S YOU!

The future is a path – not a place.  Yours is so filled with possibilities.  Lay out some of them in this assignment. Continue reading

Close Up – Thank You’s & Video Vignettes

Hey guys…we got some important follow up stuff to do.

  • Thank you letters.
  • Thank you postcards
  • And I need to make a couple of video vignettes so kids understand next years trip a little better.

Please go here for all information.  And come in and sign up and pick up the post cards in Mr. Woods room.  Please don’t lose steam on this – a lot of people did a lot of good things for us.  We owe them a Thank You!

And I wouldn’t mind having a short video vignette with somebody’s parents – that would help as well.  If anybody’s mom and dad are interested…please let me know.  These videos will be less than five minutes long.  Touch a topic and set it up in a Blend Space.

Stop by my room Tuesday and Wednesday.  And I’ll have a meeting during Channel One on Wednesday.

Thanks.  Mr Wood

Thank you guys…it was a great trip.

Hey – to you all.

You were fun to travel with.  You were positive, inquisitive, and steady.  You asked questions and made friends.  I had a great time.  I hope you did too.

We have some things to do…we need to write thank you letters and post cards to everybody who helped us make this happen.  I’ve DC ponchosstarted mine.  Stop by, I’ve got some ideas on how to make this work.   We can meet Wednesday before Channel One to touch base as a group.  And we need to get it all done by this week.  Wear something from DC on Monday.  If you don’t want to be a “Brick in the Wall” wear it on Tuesday..

As for the Flight on Saturday…thanks for making things work on the Detroit end of the original flight.  For those of you who haven’t traveled, while airports are always kind of chaotic – check in is usually not so bungled by the airline.

Go here to read the copy of the letter that I sent to the CEO of American Airlines, which owns US Airways. If your parents have any questions please have them contact me and read this letter as well.   Interesting – the guy is a Michigander – he went to Albion College.

Did I tell you I bought a coconut purse?

See you Monday.  Mr. Wood
